The Internet is swamped with news this morning of Margiela for H&M.
For many, this is exciting news.
For me, it is another sign that a new wave of labels should and will emerge.
I cannot say what is the benefit of working with juggernauts in fast fashion is for a label like Margiela.
But I find the fact that Margiela, known for cutting and hacking recycled vintage clothes and selling it at a premium, is now pitching high end aesthetics at cheaper prices a bit ironic.
I thought how perfect the pairing probably is and how perfect it is for the fashion world. Young designers will see this and react.
“This is not what I want to be.”
Amen.
